“How good was the weekend just gone,” Independent Candidate for Groom, Suzie Holt asked rhetorically.
Ms Holt believes that the weekend has again highlighted the great cultural diversity that is found in Toowoomba and the surrounding area.
Suzie spent her weekend attending and speaking with people at the 113th Oakey Agricultural Show highlighting the different farming activities and their contribution to the local economy and lifestyle of the people involved in the industry as well as the fun of the rides and other activities for those a bit more adventurous.
The Holi Festival was Suzie’s next stop celebrating the festival of colours. The festival symbolises the victory of good over evil and fosters unity and cultural exchange among diverse groups. It’s a very happy place to be at.
On Sunday after starting at the PCYC Markets Suzie joined in the St Patrick’s Day March through the streets of the Toowoomba CBD led by the Caledonian Pipe Band before enjoying a Guinness beer at the packed Irish Club Hotel as they danced a jig.
“It never ceases to amaze me at how the people of the region get into the swing of celebrating the different cultural activities. The events are organised by people proud of their heritage and very happy to share the fun that they enjoy. In doing so they bring a better understanding of different cultures to the broader community.
“You don’t have to be Irish or Indian or a farmer to enjoy the events. You just have to enjoy celebrating the diversity that brings us all together.
“Thank you to all those involved in organising such events and to all those who attended to create an amazing atmosphere.”
