The newly endorsed Voices of Groom Community Independent, Ms Suzie Holt, is supportive of the Listen Up, Please Be Kind campaign launched last week by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce.
Ms Holt is concerned about the fact that the businesses in our region who have already announced that they would comply with the new vaccine restrictions have received unnecessary and stressful abuse.
“I congratulate Mr Todd Rohl, CEO of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce for showing leadership on this issue and encourage all members of our region to Please Be Kind and support our local business community during this next phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
“As a community, we need to remember that many of the staff members who will be required to comply with this policy are teenage kids and young adults who are just trying to do their job. I fully support the Listen Up, Please Be Kind Campaign. It is an inspired idea to attempt to pre-empt any problems”.
Over the next week, the Toowoomba Region will reach 80% vaccination. It is interesting that almost half of all first doses of the vaccination in Australia last week were in Queensland, a very different statistic to before the new restrictions were announced. Queenslanders are obviously keen to “go to the pub”.
There will, however, still be approximately 25,000 people over the age of 12 who remain unvaccinated, with those 16 and over subject to the new restrictions. There are also 20,000 children under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated and remain vulnerable to the virus.
Ms Holt advised that her husband, Dr Miles Brodie will be one of the doctors in the front line of Intensive Care, if we start to see Covid-19 cases in our region. “Whilst we have outstanding health care workers and treatment is improving, there is concern that capacity may become an issue”.
As a community we need to be kind and supportive of local businesses and get vaccinated if possible to keep our region safe and open for business.
