The support of Paris Olympic Silver Medallist, Chris Burton for the Toowoomba Olympic Equestrian bid played a significant role in its success according to Independent Candidate for Groom, Suzie Holt.

Ms Holt, who took the initiative to ask Mr Burton to back the bid back in October last year, was delighted when he agreed.

She was further delighted when Chris came home to Toowoomba and spoke at the breakfast organised by the Toowoomba Agriculture Society in conjunction with Pat Weir, the State Member for Condamine, in front of over 200 enthusiastic committed equestrian and community members.

“The show of commitment to Toowoomba’s bid by those in attendance at the breakfast I’m sure buoyed those taking the bid forward confident in the knowledge that they had full community support.

“Chris was inspirational in his support of the bid not only for its boost to Toowoomba’s sporting infrastructure and economy but also for the legacy and inspiration for the young people coming through.

“It was great to catch up with Chris and thank him for his support.

“I’m sure Chris would make a great Ambassador for the Toowoomba Equestrian Olympic Games event and I would certainly encourage the organisers to appoint him as such,” Ms Holt said.
