“My views are very much in line with my strong liberal views, that our Government should not be dictating how we live our lives. So there can be no misunderstanding, I, like the overwhelming majority of Australians, support the current legislations in relation to abortion access, euthanasia and same-sex marriage. These laws have been in place for a significant period of time and all the fearmongering surrounding their introduction never came to fruition.”
Ms Holt is responding today to questions placed on her Facebook page late last night by two of Garth Hamilton MP’s staffers relating to her positions on abortion, euthanasia and the Religious Discrimination Bill.
“In relation to the Religious Discrimination Bill, my views are strongly in line with the five courageous members of the Liberal party who crossed the floor due to the unfairness of the proposed legislation. Let’s not forget, we already have very strong anti-discrimination laws in this country and all that the proposed legislation was doing was causing division within our communities.”
“As far as priorities go, the extensive kitchen table conversations we conducted since early 2021 have made clear that people in Groom are desperate for policies that will improve their day-to-day lives, including more industry, protection of landholder rights, health services, aged care funding and ensuring that Groom is getting the funding that it so rightly deserves.
They are not interested in historical debates regarding legislation which is already enshrined. I am more than happy for my personal views to be known on these issues, but they are not front and center because everyone has moved on. I want to focus on issues that are about bettering the day-to-day lives of Mr Hamilton’s constituents rather than stirring up old divisions.”
