MEDIA RELEASE: Holt promises support for $20m Cancer Centre in Toowoomba

The stand-alone Regional Cancer Centre in Toowoomba has gained the support of Suzie Holt, the Independent Candidate for Groom. Ms Holt attended the “Legends At Their Game” fundraiser event, which featured Bob Geldof.

“It’s wonderful to be at an event and see the whole community come together to support this project. The number of people here is a testament to how much this is needed in our region”, said Ms Holt.

Ms Holt said the sad statistics show that there is an average 2,335 new cancer diagnoses every year, and this number is increasing.

“The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is doing a fantastic job fundraising, but the Darling Downs needs a readily accessible facility sooner rather than later.”

Increased federal funding for regional healthcare has long been a pillar of Ms Holt’s campaign, with the long-awaited upgrade to Toowoomba Hospital, commonly referred to as The Base, having been downgraded from the original plan of a 1.8billion to a 1.3bill facility.

In parliament, Ms Holt would advocate for a contribution from the Federal Government towards its construction and then delivery of its much-needed services to the people of the Darling Downs could be brought forward.

“My promise is to work with the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and the community to bring this important project to fruition as quickly as possible regardless of who forms government after the election,” Ms Holt said.
