The Toowoomba Region is both hopeful and excited about the chance to host the 2032 Olympic Equestrian Events, a vision that promises to showcase our unique tourism assets, agricultural excellence, and welcoming community on the global stage.
Suzie Holt has been a long term champion of Toowoomba’s submission to host the Equestrian events, first joining The Chronicle’s campaign in December 2021. Ms Holt believes that the opportunity would bring significant economic benefits to Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, with the potential for long-term growth by positioning the region as a key player internationally.
“This vision holds transformative potential, enhancing tourism and hospitality, driving infrastructure development, and supporting our agricultural and sporting industries," Ms Holt said.
“I am optimistic that the review will favour Toowoomba, as the benefits to the equine and equestrian industry, as well as to regional Queensland, would be substantial.
“Toowoomba Showgrounds hosts over 30 equestrian events each year, welcoming 3,000 entries and 800 horses. Our region is well-prepared to support this Olympic dream, which would benefit the growth of industry sectors such as farriers, hospitality, veterinarians, feed suppliers, and more.
“Toowoomba has the distinct advantage of having an international airport with strict quarantine facilities close-by as well as accommodation for visiting teams in the lead up to and during the games.
“Successfully hosting the Olympics would genuinely place our region on the international stage,” Ms Holt said.
Ms Holt believes that Toowoomba’s proposal builds on the region’s proven track record of hosting successful national and regional sporting events, backed by world-class facilities and renowned country hospitality.
“Tourism will undoubtedly benefit from global exposure, attracting visitors to experience the rich culture, natural beauty, and welcoming spirit of the Darling Downs.
“This increase in tourism will enhance local businesses and create long-term opportunities for growth and investment.
“The opportunity to host Olympic Equestrian events will shine a global spotlight on our region’s heritage and innovation and contribute to sustained economic growth, creating new jobs and strengthening our local economy,” Ms Holt said. “I want to thank all the people who joined this community-led effort.”
“Imagine world-class equestrian events set against the stunning landscapes of the Darling Downs, complemented by exceptional regional entertainment and experiences. This is not just a one-time event; it’s a legacy for our community.”
