Why should I support an independent over a party politician?
I am a truly independent candidate who will represent you, not party factions, donors, or lobby groups. I will vote on what the people of our region have told me throughout extensive community engagement and through local business and community forums.
I have built an extensive team of experts: health professionals, domestic violence experts, small and large business owners, lawyers, regional community development specialists, professors, cake maker extraordinaire, tourism, to provide advice support and policy initiatives to have the team ready when elected.
Our stakeholder engagement includes local Toowoomba Regional Councillors, The Toowoomba, Highfields and Oakey Chambers of Commerce and the Pittsworth Alliance, the University of Southern Queensland and Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, as well as many community organisations involved in community and social welfare. As your regional independent candidate for Groom I am proud to back national campaigns like #PutOurCommunitiesFirst—which calls for increased federal investment in housing, infrastructure, and livable communities.
I will fight for greater funds for regional areas like Groom. Our regional councils need their fair share of funding, and as your independent candidate I will fight for it. Let’s reimagine our CBD and unlock Toowoomba’s full potential—together.
People in our region have told me that they want a representative in Canberra who is in touch with and accountable to their local voters, not political party officials. My team and I are building a policy platform based on the needs of everyone across our electorate. Our region is looking for a vision and future growth and prosperity, particularly now we are an Olympic City.
A party politician must represent their party first, and their constituents come second. The current member of parliament is a party politician who always votes along party lines regardless of what is best for our region.
How will you decide to offer your support to form government in the case of a hung parliament?
I commit to supporting the most appropriate party to form government in the likely case of a hung parliament. Who will reverse the years of neglect and give us the best deal for Groom?
Before meeting with political parties and other independents to make my decision I will meet with community leaders and listen to their views.
We want our fair share for Groom. When in parliament I will demand a local perspective on each and every bill of legislation that affects us. I will listen to the community and represent their interests in Canberra.
We will not know the outcome of the election until all votes are counted and declared, and the expected high number of pre-poll and postal votes may mean we will probably not have a clear outcome on the night of the election.
How will you vote in Parliament?
As an Independent, I will take every piece of legislation before the Parliament on its own merits and consider it means for the people of Groom, not how I am told to think or vote by party bosses.
I am committed to improving local services and infrastructure, supporting our regional economy, and protecting our irreplaceable black soils and beautiful natural environment that makes Groom so special.
Will you be allocating preferences on your how to vote card?
I will be asking voters to Vote 1 for Suzie Holt. I will not be offering preferences to other candidates. I trust voters can make up their own minds about how to vote and how they allocate their preferences.
